AIARE 1: Intro to Avalanche Hazard Management
Partnering with Mountain Savvy, an avalanche education provider serving the Mt. Hood backcountry community
Peak Recovery is excited to partner with Mountain Savvy to offer a 3-day hybrid AIARE 1 avalanche safety course for backcountry splitboarders. This course includes 2-days (16 hours) of in-person field sessions on Mt. Hood and 8-hours of pre-course online learning. Students will gain an understanding of how to prepare for a backcountry trip, basic avalanche safety and decision making while in the field, and rescue techniques that can be utilized if an avalanche occurs.
Student Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the AIARE 1 course, participants will be able to:
Develop a plan for travel in avalanche terrain
Demonstrate the ability to identify avalanche terrain
Effectively use The AIARE Risk Management Framework to make terrain choices in a group setting
Demonstrate effective companion rescue
This course is offered exclusively to graduates from our Intro to Splitboarding and Splitboard Mountaineering programs.
This free course includes:
Van transportation from Portland, Oregon
1-2 nights in shared hotel accommodations
Splitboard gear - splitboard, splitboard skins, backcountry day pack, collapsible poles
Avalanche safety gear - avalanche beacon, avalanche probe, shovel
Participants are required to provide all other gear for this course.
